According to wikipedia, exposition is "one of four rhetorical modes of discourse, along with argumentation, description, and narration. The purpose of exposition is to inform, explain, analyze, or define."
The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary has three definitions:
- a setting forth of the meaning or purpose (as of a writing)
- a: discourse or an example of it designed to convey information or explain what is difficult to understand b (1): the first part of a musical composition in sonata form in which the thematic material of the movement is presented (2): the opening section of a fugue
- a public exhibition or show
Well. those definitions certainly sound difficult, at least to me, so I would like to just say that exposition, to me, is just a piece of writing (maybe essay or letter) or even a speech that explain certain stuff or argument (in the writer's point of view?)
Sounds easier and better and nicer to me.
